Electric Power Generation and Transportation

The Masters DD (Double Degree) Program is implemented jointly with the Czech Technical University in English. Graduates receive competencies in electric power systems and power supply systems, taking into account the resource saving requirements.

Graduates are well versed in statistical methods in economics, operational dispatch management in energy systems, energy saving and energy audit of enterprises, emergency management in power systems, can use specialized software systems for the operation of power systems, perform research work.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

You will learn to:

  • plan and set research objectives, select experimental methods, interpret and present the findings of your scientific research;
  • use elements of economic analysis;
  • make decisions in the area of electric power and electrical engineering, taking into account energy and resource saving requirements.

What else you need to know

  • Entrance tests are conducted in English at Education Quality Assessment Center.

Aerospace Electric Power Engineering

The program trains specialists in electromechanics and electrical equipment of aircraft for aerospace enterprises.

The program is implemented in line with the strategy for the development of the Russian aerospace industry until 2025. The training takes into account the latest achievements in the field of electrical equipment of satellites and aerodynamic aircraft, mechatronics, electrical and magnetic materials.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

You will learn to:

  • analyze the parameters and characteristics of electrified units of an aircraft;
  • support the process of developing drawings, diagrams and electronic models of aircraft avionics systems;
  • conduct research and development activities;
  • manage the development of electronic, electromechanical and electrical switching equipment for aircrafts;
  • perform experiments and tests of on-board systems.

Automation of Electric Power Stations and Power Systems

The professional activity of graduates is related to the development and operation of automatic control devices and relay protection of electric power systems based on microprocessor technology.

Training is conducted in laboratories and computer classes equipped with installations, stands, computer equipment from leading Russian and foreign companies, including those developed by TPU.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

You will learn to:

  • create digital models of power facilities, network districts, electrical devices, devices based on power electronics, automatic control systems to address research and technological challenges;
  • apply regulatory and technical documentation for the design development and for the operation of power facilities and electrical devices;
  • design power facilities and electrical devices taking into account the digitalization of the electric power industry;
  • ensure the operation of electrical equipment of power facilities, including digital substations, microprocessor protection systems and emergency automation and telemechanic systems.

What else you need to know

  • Subject to the interview outcome, partial employment at industry enterprises is possible;
  • When organizing the educational process, we take into account the requirements of industrial partners for professional training;
  • The educational process uses an all-time modeling complex of electric power systems; a digital complex RTDS-Real Time Digital Simulator; microprocessor relay protection and emergency automation; the test stand Digital Substation Model; classroom equipped by Gazprom Dobycha Yamburg LLC.

Operational and Dispatching Management of Power Systems

Graduates provide cost-effective operation of electrical equipment, prevent and eliminate accidents and failures in the generation, conversion, transmission, distribution and consumption of electrical energy.

Training is conducted in laboratories and computer classes equipped with installations, stands, computer equipment from leading Russian and foreign companies, including those developed by TPU.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

You will learn to:

  • create digital models of power facilities, network districts, electrical devices, devices based on power electronics, automatic control systems to address research and technological challenges;
  • apply regulatory and technical documentation for the design development and for the operation of power facilities and electrical devices;
  • design power facilities and electrical devices taking into account the digitalization of the electric power industry;
  • ensure the effective operation of electrical equipment of power facilities, including digital substations, microprocessor protection systems and emergency automation and telemechanic systems;
  • ensure the operational quality of communicating and telecommunicating equipment;
  • apply methods allowing to estimate and manage power consumption.

Renewable Energy

The program was initiated in 2019 and trains specialists to work on electric power and technological installations based on non-traditional and renewable energy sources.

Graduates are familiar with the technology of wind turbines and solar power plants, master the methods of computer modeling and design of systems for generating, converting and storing energy. They can operate power plants and substations, install and adjust electrical equipment, design, conduct scientific research, and teach.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

You will learn to:

  • understand power supply systems based on renewable energy installations, autonomous power supply systems, including those using local renewable energy resources;
  • work on modern equipment, use application software;
  • apply theoretical knowledge for the construction and operation of rational power supply schemes for facilities.

Optimization of Developing Power Systems

The program is established in 2019 and prepares masters for research activities on improving power supply systems, design and development of these systems and their operation.

Graduates of the program are ready to design, implement, operate and improve modern power supply systems, taking into account advanced global trends.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

You will learn to:

  • understand the power supply systems for oil and gas production, autonomous power supply systems, including those using local renewable energy resources;
  • work on modern equipment;
  • apply theoretical knowledge for the construction and operation of rational power supply schemes for facilities.

Management of Power Systems Operational Regimes

The program was developed jointly with the company System Operator of the Unified Energy System, that conducts centralized operational and dispatch management in the Unified Energy System of Russia.

Graduates receive competencies relevant to all segments of the electric power industry: operational and dispatching management, generation, transmission, distribution, sales, and electricity consumption. 

Special attention is paid to the formation of practical skills, knowledge of industry standards and regulations, system thinking and solving non-standard tasks.

In training, modern equipment and software are used. Students take their internships at System Operator of the Unified Energy System.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

You will learn to:

  • manage the operating modes of electric power systems;
  • calculate and analyze the operating modes of electric power systems, improve their stability and reliability;
  • face real operational challenges related to electric power system management with the use of specialized software.

What else you need to know

  • employees of System Operator of the Unified Energy System participate in the teaching of disciplines, the management of practices and final works;
  • each student has an assigned curator-teacher from the university and curator-representative of System Operator of the Unified Energy System;
  • students of the program can simultaneously receive a second education in Information Technologies in Electric Power Industry (discipline Applied Informatics), which is a specialized master's program developed by the System Operator together with TPU (full-time and part-time), which provides them with high competitive advantages in the world of energy digitalization;
  • the topics of the final works are developed together with JSC System Operator of the Unified Energy System and include the solution of tasks that are important for best practices in managing System Operator of the Unified Energy System of Russia;
  • to reduce the time of adaptation of graduates in their workplaces, students undergo internships and industrial practices in the offices of JSC System Operator of the Unified Energy System.

Electrical Insulation Systems, High-voltage and Cable Equipment

TPU is the only university that perfroms comprehensive training of specialists in high-voltage and cable technology in the Asian part of the Russian Federation.

The program was developed jointly with Russian and foreign partners within the European Union TEEDE project (2016-2020). Graduates have a fundamental knowledge in electrical insulation, high-voltage and cable technology, as well as devices, operating principles and diagnostic methods for high-voltage power equipment of all voltage classes.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

You will learn to:

  • manage high-voltage substations and electrical networks;
  • develop, manufacture, test and certify cable products;
  • test and diagnose electric power equipment;
  • install and operate cable lines in energy industry, oil and gas;
  • develop and produce electrical insulation and cable systems for aviation and space technology.

What else you need to know

  • you will study with up-to-date testing equipment in the training lab of LAPPKABEL (Germany);
  • you will perform high-voltage tests in the only high-voltage training hall in the Russian Federation.

Electric Powered Drives and Automation of Technological Systems

Graduates of the program are experts in development, creation and research of automated electric drive systems for industrial installations and technological complexes.

Their distinctive features: knowledge of research forecasting methods, principles of distributed information processing, network operating systems, topologies and access methods, basic concepts of modeling theory; mathematical models of elements operating on various physical principles.

Masters understand the principles of building algorithms for optimization design calculations of electric drive components, methods of scientific research and design of electric drive elements and its element base.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

You will learn to:

  • use and operate new electric drive circuits and control systems;
  • install, commission, test, start up prototypes, perform service and repair of modern electric drives;
  • use professional design software for modern electric drives and their control systems for technological complexes;
  • use microprocessors and controllers for electric drives;
  • monitor the compliance of designs and technical documentation with standards, technical specifications and other regulatory documents;
  • typical control methods for mass electric drives;
  • use mathematical software for designing and modeling electric drives and their control systems;
  • use the methods of economics and operation organization for electric drives and their control systems in technological complexes.

What else you need to know

You will have:

  • educational laboratories of general industrial mechanisms and complex automation of technological processes; control systems of microprocessor means; AC electric drives, installation, adjustment, operation and repair of power supply systems;
  • scientific laboratories of control systems and engineering consulting, microprocessor control systems of electric drives;
  • classrooms with personal computers.

Energy-Saving Operations of Electrical Equipment

 Energy saving is an important environmental challenge, and graduates of the program can do a lot to address it.

The undergraduates deals with electromechanical complexes and systems, including control and regulation; electrotechnological processes and installations with power and control systems; electric power systems, converter devices and electric drives of power, technological and auxiliary installations; low-voltage and high-voltage electrical equipment, systems of tracking, control and distribution of electricity.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

You will learn to:

  • apply modern research methods, evaluate and present the results of the work performed;
  • identify technical tasks, analyze various options and look for compromised solutions;
  • develop, implement and monitor the implementation of technical and organizational actions aimed at energy saving and improving energy efficiency;
  • apply methods for creating and analyzing mathematical models;
  • select serial designs and develop new items of professional activity, using automation tools.

Digital Energy in Oil and Gas Industry

High-voltage Electrical Engineering and Technologies

The idea of the program is to train specialists capable of team work in interdisciplinary projects related to the use of plasma-beam and electric discharge technologies in priority areas of science, technology and technology development in the Russian Federation.

Currently, the program is aimed at training specialists who can participate in the creation of pulsed electronic accelerators for medical use by order of the Rosatom Corporation (the project is being implemented since 2020).

Knowledge, skills and abilities

You will learn to:

  • work in a research team as a team member, as well as lead a team in the relevant field of knowledge;
  • independently conduct research;
  • address scientific and engineering challenges of high-tech production;
  • select serial designs and develop new items of professional activity;
  • operate and maintain high-voltage equipment for scientific and technological purposes.
