Alexander Shutikov, a TPU graduate in physics and engineering, was appointed General Director of Rosenergoatom. He will be responsible for improving the efficiency and safety of Russian NPPs.

"He will be responsible for achieving the goals of increasing the share of nuclear power in the country's power balance, improving the efficiency of power generation, and the construction of nuclear power plants in Russia and abroad," as stated on the Concern's website.
Alexander Shutikov graduated from the Physics and Engineering Faculty of Tomsk Polytechnic Institute (now Tomsk Polytechnic University). He holds a degree of Cand.Sc. in Engineering. He embarked upon his career in 1984 as a production management engineer at the Krasnoyarsk Mining and Chemical Combine. From 1987 to 1991, he was a senior reactor control engineer, shift supervisor of a reactor shop, shift supervisor of a Khmelnitskaya NPP unit.
From 1991 to 2009, he worked as a shift supervisor, deputy chief engineer for operations and chief engineer at Balakovo NPP, Branch of Rosenergoatom. From 2009 to 2015, he was the First Deputy Director for Production and Operation at Balakovo NPP. From 2009 to 2015, he was the First Deputy Director for Production and Operation of NPPs, Deputy General Director, Director for Production and Operation of NPPs at Rosenergoatom.
From April 2015, he worked as the First Deputy General Director of Rosenergoatom (06.04.2015 First Deputy General Director, 06.07.2015 First Deputy General Director for NPP Operation in the Russian Federation, 01.08.2016 First Deputy General Director for NPP Operation).
Alexander Shutikov was awarded the second-class Medal of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland and the Certificate of Merit from the President of the Russian Federation, as well as many other decorations for his contribution to the nuclear power industry.Graduates of Tomsk Polytechnic University hold managerial positions at seven of the 11 operating nuclear power plants in Russia.
