Tomsk Polytechnic University

Chemical engineers research, develop, and manage processes and equipment for the large-scale production of a variety of chemical products: polymers, fuels, pharmaceuticals, and foods.

Tomsk Polytechnic University trains such specialists in the Chemical Engineering Master's program. Students can build their own individual learning path and get unique competencies that they need.

Experienced specialists from large oil refining, pharmaceutical and petrochemical companies study in the Chemical Engineering Program. They all came to become sought-after professionals and climb the career ladder by learning new tools of chemical technology.

TPU ranks first in Chemical Technologies in the RAEX rating among Russian universities, as well as in the QS rating among Russian universities in Oil and Gas Engineering.

How training works

Based on the student's needs, we give them the right knowledge and skills.

First, they need to decide on their major:

  1. Oil and gas preparation technology

  2. Oil and gas processing technology

  3. High molecular weight compound chemistry

  4. Analysis and control in chemical and pharmaceutical production

  5. Biomedical technologies

During the first month of studying, supervisors help students learn about the profiles and tracks available. After choosing a track, Master's students go through a selection process baked on the results of entrance tests and a motivational essay.

Program Alumni

"TPU gave me a way into life. After graduating from university, I started working in my specialty at Tomskneft. In a short period of time, I rose from the operator of the dewatering and desalting unit to the deputy head of the oil treatment and pumping shop. The basic knowledge of the processes and technologies of oil and gas processing that I acquired at the university helped me to achieve this goal. My responsibility, determination and hard work were also a great contribution", - Vladislav Deriglazov, deputy head of the Tomskneft plant, class of 2012.

"Love what you do and try to do it as well as possible, then you will be successful both in your work and career" - Alexander Dementiev, chief specialist and deputy head of the deep oil refinery of KINEF, class of 2009.

"After graduating from TPU's Faculty of Chemical Engineering, I started learning the basics of process engineering at Noosfera. In 2014, I became the head of the technology department. In 2017, I moved to TomskNIPIneft as the chief specialist of the process engineering department, and a year later I became the head of the process department for gas facilities. Now I am in charge of a specialized department involved in designing the largest gas infrastructure facilities of Rosneft" - Vladimir Chernyshov, Head of the Technological Department for Gas Facilities, Head of the Specialized Institute of Gas, Gas Condensate and Oil and Gas Field Development Technologies of TomskNIPIneft, class of 2008.

"I graduated from TPU with a degree in basic processes of chemical production and chemical cybernetics. I started working at TomskNIPIneft as a category II engineer in the Technology department. Valuable knowledge acquired at the university, as well as interest in my favorite work and diligence help me to grow and develop", - Veronika Kolmogorova, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Head of the Integrated Design Department of TomskNIPIneft, class of 2008.

"Years later, I can say with certainty that I have never regretted studying at TPU. And you will not regret it either. I wish you many amazing discoveries and personal victories. May each academic year at the university bring you closer to your professional goals" - Alexey Vykhodtsev, Deputy General Director for Technological Development of TomskNIPIneft, class of 2009.

"In the Master's program I was able to study according to an individualized curriculum, which allowed me to combine subjects from different areas of chemical technology and broaden my competence. In addition, engineering and scientific activities are well integrated, which in turn allows me to apply modern scientific knowledge in practice in the development and modernization of processing enterprises," - postgraduate student at TPU Research School of Chemistry & Applied Biomedical Sciences, Maxim Kuznetsov.

"TPU made me even more interested in engineering and science. Here, during my studies, I learned to look at engineering problems from different angles and to find non-standard and correct solutions. I acquired the ability to expand and break down a large, seemingly unsolvable problem into many small problems and easily find solutions for each one. An equally important acquisition during my studies are friends and colleagues with whom I continue my professional career" - Alexander Meleshkin, Head of Intellectual Property Commercialization at Gazprom Neft, class of 2010.
