Tomsk Polytechnic University

Graduates of the Virtual and Augmented Reality program are developers who are able to design, develop and integrate products on Unity and Unreal Engine.

The Master’s Program graduates will learn to create realistic 3D scenes, digital twins of real production processes, and develop virtual and augmented reality applications. They will also be able to create virtual simulators and model different situations in production.

Tomsk Polytechnic University has extensive experience in the development of virtual reality systems. For example, the university has developed an educational resource where a virtual character passes geological routes with a first-person view - a virtual geological polygon.

Another solution developed is a virtual simulator TPU Nuclear Reactor Training Center. Such interactive simulators are digital copies of real geological or production facilities and allow students to study production processes directly from their computers.

The Program students learn to perform complex tasks in project production, from idea and risk assessment to commercialization. Graduates will have the knowledge and skills to solve a variety of project problems in Unity and Unreal Engine for game development and AR/VR/MR solutions.  During the program, students work on real projects with partner companies to gain soft and hard skills.

Key Competencies

  • Develop cross-platform real-time applications on Unity/Unreal Engine;
  • Master development and integration tools for cross-platform real-time applications on Unity/Unreal Engine;
  • Apply modern methods, approaches and algorithms for game mechanics development;
  • Manage the development and implementation of software products at different stages of the lifecycle: pre-production, production and LiveOps;
  • Perform R&D in the field of computer graphics algorithms, user behavior in virtual space, as well as game artificial intelligence and networking.

Resources

  • To ensure the educational process and the development of students' creative potential, modern computers and software products are used, including development tools matching the industry standards: Unity, Unreal Engine 4/5, Perforce, and PlasticSCM.
  • During the training, students work with various virtual reality headsets such as Pico 4, HTC Vive, Oculus Quest 2, Oculus Rift S, Samsung Odyssey, etc.
  • Students will also have access to motion capture systems such as Perception Neuron, Leap Motion, and Microsoft Kinect 2.
